CMYK or RGB?
RGB Colour Model
RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue and relates to the three elementary colours used to make up the full spectrum of a colour image. It is the colour model used to display images on television screens and computer monitors. A media file in RGB format has a wider so-called Gamut range than a CMYK file, but must be converted to CMYK prior to production for print.
CMYK Colour Model
CMYK refers to the four process colours used in full colour printing, where Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black inks are combined in a technique called halftone screening (see the resolution page) to render a full colour image. This colour model is generally used in file formats destined for pre-press production.
Spot Colours
SpotColours for media files are identified by their international Pantone reference number. Spot colours are generally referred to in media files in vector format.
